Adoption Testimonials

Bo and Glenn

I would love to share the very special and positive experience my husband and I had with Underdog Rescue and the wonderful folks who run that program. We’re both in our 60’s so we’ve adopted and rescued lots of wonderful dogs, mostly Golden Retrievers, during our time together. Man, we’ve had some awesome dogs and awesome experiences during that time!

We had recently lost our Golden and were ready to adopt another dog 2 months ago. We’re fairly new to Grand Junction so began visiting and learning about various Rescues and attending several adoption events in the area. We continued to see Underdog Rescue’s presence at the adoption events and followed them online. It didn’t take long for the perfect dog (looks, size, personality, male, etc.) to pop up on the Underdog website. We weren’t looking for a puppy – we thought a dog 2-4 years old would be a perfect fit for our other Golden who was 5. But this dog who sounded perfect was a puppy. When we met him, he was very shy and just wanted to hang with his sweet Foster Mom, Jennifer. We walked him with our dog and hung out with him, but he wasn’t very interested in us. We went with our “gut” and adopted him anyway (his name was Marshall but we changed it to Bo). I had been in contact with folks from Underdog and Jennifer for the first few days before we adopted him and for a few weeks after we took him home – they were all great! They answered every question, told me what they knew about his history and kept checking in to make sure all was going well once we brought him home.

Let me just say – this sweet puppy is the easiest dog we’ve ever rescued. Like I said, it had been a long while since we had a puppy and we thought “Oh Boy – are we ready for this??!!” Bo slept on a doggie bed right next to our bed the first night (and every night thereafter) without a peep or even stirring in the night. He immediately became fast friends with our 5 year old Golden, Jake. He was loving and frequently climbed in Jakes dog bed to lay with him throughout the day. They played together almost immediately and have grown to love each other so much.  Early on, Bo had a few accidents in the house but, other than that, NO INCIDENTS WITH ANYTHING. He has never chewed on anything except toys and bones, he’s never been aggressive with people or dogs, he learned to walk on a leash quickly and he is so sweet and so smart and absolutely the PERFECT DOG.  We never needed a kennel for training, we could leave him alone in the house and in our big one-acre yard almost immediately. We seldom leave our dogs alone but occasionally we needed to and each time was without incident….no digging in the yard, no bothering anything in the house, no getting on the furniture or chewing up anything!!  It was all amazingly easy!! I think this is a testament to the folks who brought him home from New Mexico and Jennifer.  Every person at Underdog Rescue provided this little guy with great experiences and great first memories/impressions and he came to us without a fear or any issues.

The experience has been nothing short of amazing, fun, wonderful, easy and sweet. We are madly in love with Underdog Rescue and BoBo and would adopt a dog from them again in a heartbeat. We have loved every minute of this experience and look forward to a wonderful future with BoBo and Jake.

We thank you, Underdog Rescue and Fricking Awesome Foster Mom, Jennifer for this great dog at a time when we really needed a sweet puppy to ease our hearts and make us smile after a hard loss of our sweet Golden. We appreciate you and we recently made a donation to your Program as we want you to continue to be able to provide such happy endings for folks like us and dogs like Bo. I am extremely grateful for you and the wonderful experience you provided all of us!
